Estadio Azteca currently known as Mexico City Stadium for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and officially known as Estadio Banorte for sponsorship reasons, is a football stadium located in Coyoacán, Mexico City. At an elevation of 2,200 m (7,220 feet) above sea level it is the official home of Club América of Liga MX and the Mexican national team. With a capacity of 87,523, it is the largest stadium in Latin America and the eighth-largest association football stadium in the world. Regarded as one of the most famous and iconic football stadiums in the world and often called the "Temple or Cathedral of Football", it was the first to host two FIFA World Cup finals; Brazil defeated Italy 4–1 in 1970 and Argentina bested West Germany 3–2 in 1986. It also hosted the 1986 quarter-final match between Argentina and England in which Diego Maradona scored both the "Hand of God goal" and the "Goal of the Century". The Estadio Azteca is the only football stadium in the world to have both Pelé (1970) and Diego Maradona (1986) win the FIFA World Cup, both of whom are considered among the greatest players of all time. It also hosted the "Game of the Century", when Italy defeated West Germany 4–3 in extra time in one of the 1970 semifinal matches. The stadium was the principal venue for the football tournament of the 1968 Summer Olympics and the 1971 Women's World Cup. It did also host games during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including the opening game where South Africa played against Mexico, making it the only stadium to host three editions of the FIFA World Cup. Additionally, the National Football League (NFL) of the United States features one game of American football at the stadium per season as a part of its International Series.

Despre Mexico
The Mexico national football team (Spanish: Selección de fútbol de México) represents Mexico in international football. It is fielded by the Mexican Football Federation (Spanish: Federación Mexicana de Fútbol), the governing body of football in Mexico, and competes as a member of CONCACAF, which encompasses the countries of North and Central America, and the Caribbean. Mexico's home stadium is the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, and the head coach is Juan Carlos Osorio. Mexico has qualified to fifteen World Cups and has qualified consecutively since 1994, making it one of six countries to do so. The Mexico national team, along with Brazil and Germany, are the only nations to make it out of the group stage over the last six World Cups. Mexico played France in the very first match of the first World Cup on 13 July 1930. Mexico's best progression in World Cups has been reaching the quarter-finals in both the 1970 and 1986 World Cups, both of which were staged on Mexican soil. Mexico is historically the most successful national team in the CONCACAF region, having won ten confederation titles, including seven CONCACAF Gold Cups and three CONCACAF Championships (the precursor to the Gold Cup), as well as three NAFC Championships, one North American Nations Cup, and one CONCACAF Cup. Mexico is the only team from CONCACAF to have won an official FIFA competition, winning the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup. Although Mexico is under the jurisdiction of CONCACAF, the national team has been regularly invited to compete in the Copa América since 1993, finishing runner-up twice – in 1993 and 2001 – and obtaining the third-place medal on three occasions.
